MEET the BOARD - Shawn Patterson

Shawn Patterson has lived in the Bridgewater area for 42 years. Shawn has worked at the Chronicle Herald for the past six years and holds the position of Provincial Sales Manager.

Previous to working at the Chronicle Herald Shawn spent 12 years working in social services with a focus on mental health and counseling.

Family Caregiver Education Series

The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia will be providing the Family Caregiver Education Series in Liverpool and Bridgewater beginning in March.

The six week program is for those providing care and support to family members or a friend who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.

MEET the BOARD- Brooke Nodding

Brooke Nodding is Bluenose Coastal Action's present Executive Director and overall project leader/manager is Brooke Nodding. Ms. Nodding is a graduate from Acadia University with a BScH in Environmental Science.

She has spent time with both Environment Canada (National Office of Pollution Prevention, Hull, PQ) and Fisheries & Oceans Canada (Habitat Management Division, Dartmouth, NS) before accepting her present position with Coastal Action. Her background is in fluvial dynamics, aquatic habitat management, conservation management planning, and community-based stewardship initiatives. Brooke has been the Executive Director of Coastal Action since May 2001.

MEET THE BOARD - Emily MacKay

MEET THE BOARD- Emily MacKay (Board Secretary)

Emily is from Halifax and moved to the South Shore 2 years ago to be closer to the many beautiful beaches, and to enjoy the charm of the South Shore.

She joined the Bridgewater & Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in an effort to help better, and participate in, the growing business community found here. She is a Financial Planner with TD Wealth in Bridgewater and Lunenburg, and her goal is to help her clients identify their dreams and goals, and then partner with them to create practical solutions to reach those goals and make them realities.

She is a graduate from Nova Scotia Community College, Investment Management Program, and has completed numerous industry courses, and has received her Chartered Investment Manager® Designation. In her free time she enjoys scuba diving and gardening.

MEET the BOARD Blair Lipsett

Blair Lipsett - Chamber Vice President

Blair is the Academic Chair for the School of Access and the School of Trades and Technology at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Lunenburg Campus.

Prior to this role, he taught in the School of Business for five years in topics ranging from introductory marketing to advanced spreadsheets.

He came to the NSCC from the educational publishing industry where he spent the first 12 years of his career as a sales representative and manager for Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Management, a Community College Educational Diploma for Faculty, and a Masters of Business Administration in Innovation Leadership.

MEET THE BOARD-Jim Brown

Today we begin with a series called MEET THE BOARD. This will give you some idea of the depth of experience, knowledge and energy that the current Board of Directors bring to the table. Today we will start with Jim Brown our sitting President.

Jim Brown

Jim Brown is currently the General Manager of Staples in Cookville, NS. Jim has 20 years of retail experience through his work with Staples, Hudson's Bay and Zellers. Throughout that time Jim has had the opportunity to work and discover many of the communities throughout our province, and has gained a respect for the vibrancy of small town Nova Scotia. Jim has served on the board of multiple community organizations, most recently Events Lunenburg County and his current role as President of the Bridgewater Area Chamber of commerce. Prior to his work in Retail Jim studied Computing Science at Saint Mary's University.
